Team Description
Centre national de la recherche scientifique
The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique is a public organization under the responsibility of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research. As the largest fundamental research organization in Europe, CNRS carries out research in all fields of knowledge, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Engineering, through its seven institutes and three national institutes. Through its joint labs partnered with universities, or other research organizations, or industry (UMR and URA) the CNRS also plays an important role in the training of young scientists.
Institut de Physique Théorique (IPhT)
As one of the biggest centres for theoretical physics in Europe, with about 50 permanent researchers, the IPhT is a joint research lab (URA) of the CNRS while being part of the Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA). Geographically situated in the south-west of the Paris region, in Saclay, the IPhT carries out active research on all aspects of modern theoretical physics, including high energy physics, astrophysics, statistical physics, condensed matter theory and mathematical physics. The researchers form the IPhT have close relationship with the Master and PhD programs in Theoretical Physics, some of the lectures being held in Saclay.
Mathematical Physics Group
Research in the Mathematical Physics group at the IPhT includes research on string theory, exactly solvable models, matrix models, conformal field theory, quantum gravity as well as perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of quantum field theory. Part of the present activity of the group focuses on gauge/gravity dualities, integrability , including integrability of supersymmetric gauge theories, computation of gluons amplitudes. There are close relationships with the Quantum Chromodynamics and Statistical Physics/Condensed matter groups, as well as with other groups of Mathematical Physics in the Paris area. The members of the group belong also to the Laboratoires d’Excelence Hadamard.
