Physics Department of Imperial College is one of the largest and most prestigious Physics Departments in the UK with an outstanding reputation for excellence in research, undergraduate education and postgraduate training. It has vibrant and internationally leading research programme that provides a broad-based coverage of fundamental and applied physics, including high energy experimental and theoretical physics and astrophysics.

Theoretical Physics Group of Physics Department of Imperial College was founded in 1956 by Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam carries out leading research in some of the most exciting areas of theoretical physics including string theory, quantum field theory, cosmology, quantum foundations and gravity. It has a dynamic PhD programme and and a one year MSc Course which provides a focussed training to begin research at a PhD level. The string theory and quantum field theory part of the group studies various aspects of M-theory, supergravity, gauge-string duality and supersymmetric field theory, including integrability and exact results in AdS/CFT.
